It's described as "stainless steel", but brand new, the bottom had marks that looked like hard water stains. I managed to get them out with vinegar and water, but it has been picking up stains ever since, including fingerprints on the outside, which soap and water won't remove, more hard water stains, and heavy marks at the water line. The pot has always been hand washed and dried.Worse, the plastic handles melt and bubble, giving off that nauseating burning plastic smell. As a steamer, one would think it would be designed to withstand high heat. One handle came loose after a few uses. It is easily screwed back on, but I think it's just more evidence of shoddy workmanship.
Overall this is a very cheap pot in feel and construction. Pot is made in China. Perhaps there are quality control issues, and I just got a bad one, though I am guessing the handles are the same on all of them.

This is a great size pot!! It fits nicely in my cluttered cabinet! The pot is light in weight, even with the steamer insert, but it is not flimsy and is well made. The handles stay cool and the lid seals on nicely. Great for steaming vegetables, preparing rice dishes and any other recipe where a larger pot & steamer would be inappropriate.

We use this pot for steaming corn on the cob, and can easily fit three or four ears in the steaming basket. A little steam leaks out from between the basket and the pot. The bottom pot is a handy size for cooking spaghetti, although as someone else noted, you still need to use a collander to drain the water. We haven't had any problems with the handles, as someone else mentioned; I think that reviewer must have been referring to a different item. The Farberware Classic handles are oven safe to 350 degrees, if I remember correctly. It comes out of the dishwasher looking great. The pot bottom will scorch fairly easily when cooking certain foods, as it is uncoated.
