I bought this just to see what the quality was like for this price. Honestly, this is more than good for the money. It is not what I would consider "pro", but it will get you started. As long as you don't rough it up, it should last for at least a year. Give it a try if you are just getting started. You won't regret it.

I bought this umbrella in December of 2010. I use it lightly, maybe two days per month. It's still good as new. I had purchased a more expensive umbrella prior to this one that tended to snap close by itself! This Photo Basics umbrella opens nicely, and stays open. It also isn't so taut that I feel like it would cut my fingers off if it did close on me. It has just the right amount of tension.

I would not recommend this umbrella for travelling. It is only as sturdy as one might expect for $13. However, for home shoots or maybe a trip across town, it's perfect. And when it's open and the flash is firing, the light is really pleasant and soft. I mount it on a Manfrotto Nano Stand using a Manfrotto Swivel Lite-Tite Adapter.

I was in the wholesale photographic equipment business for almost 20 years and when I saw this umbrella and this price I thought that I would be disappointed. Far from it! There are much nicer, more sturdily built umbrellas on the market but they are hard to find and cost 3-4 times as much. Here are my observations:

* The ribs feel like what you would expect from a commercial, "rain-type" umbrella. The nibs are nicely covered with a white plastic cap.

* The shaft has a solid plug in the end of it but is hollow. Still, I have not dented it by tightening down on it with the umbrella adapter holding screw.

* The cover material is perfect for either reflecting or shooting-through. The color is neutral white as opposed to some that I have used that give a blue tint.

All-in-all a decent photographic umbrella at a great price. I give it four starts for quality but I would give it ten for value if I could.
